In the Footsteps of Jesus
Day Long Retreat
Co-Sponsored by Immaculate Heart Retreat Center and Catholic Charities, Spokane
June 7, 2008
Following “In the Footsteps of Jesus” will
bring the Catholic in “the middle pew “ to a better understanding
of what it means, both in mind and in heart, to reach out to the poor and
marginalized in our midst. Why do the poor occupy a central place in Jesus’
life and teaching? What has our Church taught and modeled through the years
to help us follow Jesus’ example? What does it mean for us today to
encounter the face of Christ in the forgotten and the lost? Offered by Immaculate
Heart Retreat Center, in collaboration with Catholic Charities, Spokane, “In
the Footsteps of Jesus” is a series of weekend retreats scheduled in
January, March and June of 2008, that will engage the faithful in a pilgrimage
of the heart. Together we will learn more about our Church’s social
doctrine and the call for all who are baptized to exercise a preferential
option for the poor. The core of the retreat weekend will be an opportunity
to live the Gospel as Jesus taught us, spend time and reflect upon service
while walking with the poor, with the help of a service agency such as the
House of Charity. Retreatants will leave with a more compassionate love of
the poor among us, an analysis of their needs and a broader understanding
of the church’s mission in how to bring about God’s kingdom of
justice.
Speakers may include but are not limited to: Rev. Msgr. Frank Bach, Fr. Micheal Maher, Sr. Mary Garvin, Fr. Rory Pitstick, Fr. Uche Obisike, Fr. Tom Caswell, Deacon John Ruscheinsky, Scott Cooper and Rob McCann of Catholic Charities.
Cost for this weekend retreat, including meals and lodging is $45per person.
