24-Hour Retreat Welcoming Grace: Embracing the Loving-kindness and Tender Mercy of God. Fr. Tom Lamanna S.J., and Deacon James Fish
In this retreat, we will consider how God’s grace is always available for us through the Holy Spirit’s ever-presence. God, through His Son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, continually communicates with us through creation, our relationships, our personal prayer and the life and Tradition of the Church: the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist and Sacred Scripture. Father Tom will emphasize spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola while Deacon Jim will offer the spiritualities of St. Therese of Lisieux and St. Charles de Foucauld as ways of receiving the loving-kindness and tender mercy of God. $130 per person, $215 per couple (includes 1 night lodging and up to 3 meals).
Bio. Fr. Tom Lamanna, S.J. I was born and raised in Spokane in St. Francis Xavier Parish. I attended St. X, Gonzaga Prep, and Gonzaga U after which I entered the Jesuits. My Jesuit formation took to me Portland, Spokane, and Boston. I taught at Gonzaga Prep for 8 years, Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma for 5 years, in between those two assignments I worked in the Jesuit Novitiate for 11 years as Associate Novice Director and Novice Director. I am currently the Pastor at St. Aloysius Parish.
I have worked extensively with the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, both in the 30 day format, and as the Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life, also known SEEL or the 19th Annotation. I have both directed and trained directors of the Spiritual Exercises for the past 25 years.
Bio. Deacon James Fish I’m grateful for the opportunity to briefly introduce myself.
I’ve been married to my beloved, Cindy, for 47+ years, blessed with 3 adult children and 6 grandchildren.
I taught Religious Studies for 41 years in Catholic High Schools in the Archdiocese of Seattle (Kennedy), Portland (Jesuit High) and Sydney, (St. Ignatius College) New South Wales, Australia. I served 33 years as the Campus Minister and Administrator at Bellarmine Prep Tacoma, as the Ignatian (Adult) Formation Director, teaching part time in the Religious Studies Dept. I’ve led over 100 retreats over the years with both high school students and adults focusing on Ignatian Spirituality, the spiritualities of St. Thérèse of Lisieux and St. Charles de Foucauld.
I also served as the Pastoral Coordinator/leader at four different parishes in the Archdiocese of Seattle.
In my time off, I like to garden, walk, bicycle on 30 – 60 mile trips, read theology and spirituality, and spend as much time as possible with Cindy, and spending time with our grandchildren even though 4 of the 6 live in Virginia. We love the beach, esp. Seaside, Oregon, and the mountains, especially Leavenworth, Washington. I possess a great interest in hagiography, reading about the saints of the Church.
