While recuperating from an injury he received in battle, Ignatius of Loyola formulated a set of meditations that focused on a method of prayer to move closer to God. Fr. Michael Maher will take retreatants through some of the steps recognized for centuries to remove those things that draw us away from our relationship with God and provide insight into how we can move towards God. This silent retreat will allow retreatants to develop those skills that were designed by Ignatius, as well as, provide a means to advance spiritual lives in a peaceful environment away from the noise of everyday life.
Fr. Michael Maher, S.J. received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy at St. Louis University, two master’s degrees in theology one in systematic, the other in historical theology at the Jesuit School of theology at Berkely, and his Doctorate in History at the University of Minnesota specializing in Early Modern History and in particular Jesuit history and China in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. In addition to various teaching assignments, Fr. Maher has done extensive work and research in Italy where he ran a school in Florence and worked in the Jesuit archives in Rome. His scholarship may be found with Brill, The archive for Reformation Studies, and the Maria Goretti Parish bulletin. Fr. Maher currently teaches in the History department at Marquette University.
