Two of our diocesan Missionaries of Mercy appointed by Pope Francis will speak on the abundant blessings available to all of us through the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. They will tell us about when they received the purple stole and scroll from the pope. These blessings flow onward to us and to the world in this Year of Mercy!
Msgr Robert Pearson
Msgr. Robert Pearson, ordained in 1965. had attended the Pontifical College Josephinum, a seminary in Worthington, Ohio, for college and theology. He worked in various parishes and schools, and was named the diocese’s Director of Religious Education in 1972. He also served as Vicar for Education and as Vicar for Priests. He was invested as a monsignor in 1997, became Director of Continuing Education for Priests in 2003, and retired at the end of June, 2004, when he once again returned to the role of Vicar for Priests. Monsignor was selected by Pope Francis to be a Minister of Mercy during this Jubilee Year of Mercy.
Father Michael Blackburn, OFM
Franciscan Father Michael Blackburn is the pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Spokane. Born in New Orleans, Father grew up in Simi Valley, California where after high school, he entered the seminary in Los Angeles, from where he graduated, later becoming a Franciscan in the Santa Barbara Province. Father has served as pastor of St. James the Apostle Parish in Las Vegas, and worked in Glasgow, Scotland, assisting at a parish. He has been selected by Pope Francis as one of his designated Missionaries of Mercy for the Jubilee Year of Mercy.
