Marthas and Josephs is a program began by Carol Welk when Immaculate Heart Retreat Center first opened in 1959. Msgr. Rosage, then the Director, knew that volunteer support from our dioceses' parishes was vital for the life of IHRC; that was so true then and today.
Marthas and Josephs are a group of dedicated women and men from a parish who give of their time and talent, and volunteer to come to Immaculate Heart Retreat Center to clean rooms after a retreat. This usually happens on Mondays from 9:00 am to noon. When they arrive, the housekeeping staff shows them where to work and what chores are needed to be completed.
At noon, the group is invited to enjoy a specially prepared lunch in the retreat center’s dining room. Each time they help as a way of thanking them for their service; each Martha and Joseph receives a gift certificate for a Day of Prayer, or to offset some of the cost of a retreat.
